The next panel discussion in a Minnesota State University, Mankato 2017-2018 “We Have Ag!” colloquium series will be held Tuesday, March 27 and address “Water Quality in our Agriculture-Rich Region: Challenges & Opportunities.”
The event, free and open to the public, is from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 27 on campus in Centennial Student Union’s Ostrander Auditorium.
The 2017-2018 “We Have Ag!” colloquium series is intended to highlight the University’s distinctive academics, research and industry connections in agriculture, food and natural resources. The series events will be live-streamed.
The format for each session will be a moderated panel discussion with an introduction, two-five speakers for five-eight minutes each, questions and open discussion for 20-30 minutes and closing remarks. All views are welcome. Deliberative discussions and light refreshments will follow each event.
At the March 27 event, Pat Baskfield, a hydrologist with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, will provide a regional water quality overview.
Don and Becky Waskosky, Le Sueur River Watershed Network leaders, will discuss “Impacts of Increased Flow.” Jessica Nelson, watershed outreach & GIS specialist from Minnesota State Mankato’s Water Resources Center, and the Waskoskys will discuss “Citizen Led Solutions, Le Sueur River Watershed: Seven Steps for Cleaner Water and Watershed Health.”
Kimberly Musser, associate director of Minnesota State Mankato’s Water Resources Center, and Dusty Anderson, Watonwan River Watershed technician, will discuss “Citizen Led Solutions, Watonwan River Watershed: Watonwan River Watershed Leverage Points for Increased Conservation Adoption.”

“These are great forums in which to learn about the success stories of Minnesota State Mankato students, alumni, faculty and staff in their academics, research and industry connections,” said Marilyn Wells, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. “These events will also help us explore our future potential as a Non-Land Grant College of Agriculture (NLGCA), a designation we achieved in 2015. We invite the campus and local communities to attend and join us in determining our destiny.”
Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive university with 14,712 students, is part of the Minnesota State system, which includes 30 colleges and seven universities.
