코스탈캐롤라이나대학교|Coastal Carolina University/CCU orchestra, Long Bay Youth Symphony collaborate

The Coastal Carolina University Orchestra and the Long Bay Youth Symphony (LBYS) will perform “More Inspirations from the Dance” on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the Myrtle Beach High School Music and Arts Center. Tickets are $10, and discounts are available.

Long Bay Symphony conductor Charles Jones Evans, a teaching associate in CCU’s Department of Music, will direct the combined orchestras.

Continuing last season's program theme, this concert includes dance-based classics such as Johann Strauss' “Voices of Spring Waltzes,” Antonin Dvorak’s “Slavonic Dances,” excerpts from Georges Bizet's “Carmen,” J.S. Bach’s “Orchestral Suite No. 1” and selections of Duke Ellington’s work.

Special guest soloist will be Steven Martinez, a teaching associate in the Department of Music. A CCU alumnus, Martinez is a member of the Long Bay Symphony and former student concerto competition winner with the LBYS. Martinez will perform the “Concerto in F for Double Bass” by Antonio Capuzzi. CCU and the Long Bay Symphony have been performing collaboratively for more than two decades.

Evans is in his 21st season as music director and conductor of the Long Bay Symphony/LBYS and has held conducting positions with numerous professional orchestras and music festivals across the country. As guest conductor, he has been featured on the podium with the Richmond (Va.), North Carolina, Virginia and Arkansas symphonies and the Memphis Ballet, as well as ensembles in Boston, Mass.; Cleveland, Ohio; Dallas, Texas; Spokane, Wash.; Santa Barbara, Calif.; and other cities across the U.S. In Europe, he has made guest appearances with the Oradea and Giurgiu Philharmonic orchestras of Romania, as well as orchestras in Bucharest. Evans' orchestral performances have been broadcast frequently on National Public Radio.
